Hot Springs and Spa of Ikaria island
Ikaria is well known for its radioactive springs. The exceptional therapeutic properties of the Ikarian hot springs are known since the antiquity. To this day, research has proven that many of these springs are unique in the world.
In Therma, the main spa of Ikaria, 5 of the most important therapeutic springs of the island are located. In distant times, the inhabitants of Therma were known with the name Asklipieis, from the homonymous God of Medicine, in recognition, as it seems, of the miraculous results of their waters.
The springs are suitable for rheumatism, arthritis and spondyloarthritis, arthralgias, coxalgias, myalgias, insufficiencies and chronic sterilities, etc.
Nowadays, 3 spa facilities (Spilia, Appolon, Kratsas) are operating in Therma village, exploiting 3 of the 5 known hot springs of the region and 1 in Agios Kirikos (Asklepios). Other hot springs in the area to visit are in Therma Lefkadas, west of Agios Kirikos and in Agia kiriaki, a small settlement near the airport.
